SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Creating a positive elementary social emotional classroom is a layered approach.
It’s not a one size fit all concept. In fact, what is required, is a combination of strategies and learning activities that work together to promote a supportive learning environment.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Here are some effective ways to create a positive classroom behavior management:
- Build positive relationships: Teachers can build positive relationships with their students by creating a welcoming atmosphere in the classroom. Greet students individually and make time to get to know them
- Use positive reinforcement and provide genuine feedback to empower your students.
- Incorporate cooperative learning activities and small group activities to help students interact socially and learn from peers
- Explicitly teach social and emotional strategies: Teachers can teach social and emotional skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and self-regulation. This can be done through role-playing, discussions, and other activities that help students recognize and manage their emotions.
- Promote a Growth Mindset: Encourage students to embrace challenges and think of mistakes as positive learning opportunities. This helps to build resilience and self-confidence, which are essential to social and emotional development.
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment: Teachers can create a safe and supportive environment by establishing a calm down classroom corner or spot for students to take a brain break from cognitive overload or self regulate
- Use positive reinforcement: Use positive classroom coupons or reward to genuinely reward personal best effort and good behavior.
