Animal Research Project 1st Grade Informative Writing Prompts
Out of all the genres of writing – from recounts, narratives, informational and persuasive writing – I find informational writing is my students favorite! They approach informational writing with a fun and motivated attitude, provided it is project based learning. A great way to introduce this genre is through animal research projects. They’re hands on, interactive, independent or collaborative with a peer and loads of fun!
This Animal Research Project includes a reading fluency passage for the teacher to project on the smartboard for a whole class explicit reading or reviewing a particular comprehension strategy. Alternatively, students cann independently read, research and highlight the fun facts and main idea of the text. Either, it is also a great idea to encourage your students to visit the school library and borrow other nonfiction texts to supplement their research and refine their library skills.
Also included is a research planning Bubble Map Graphic Organizer for students to gather their infomation and then transfer this newly acquired knowledge after reading the passage. Then they write their information on writing prompt templates provide, cut, paste to create a poster, lapbook or interactive notebook.
