FREE WRITING GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS
Whether you’re a teacher or a student, who doesn’t love a good looking graphic organizer??
So when it comes to teaching writing, of course we’re going to use graphic organizers because they help students organize their ideas in the very important prewriting organizing and outlining. For all the visual learners (like me and I’m sure you!), they provide a visual representation of the writing structure, so that students can visual the different elements of writing and understand how they come together. This is an important step when teaching the writing process, as it helps students sequence their ideas and develop text cohesion (which is a fancy name for making the words flow!)
If you need reasons why writing graphic organizers are an important part of your writing curriculum, here they are:
- Planning: Graphic organizers are great planning tools that help students brainstorm ideas, gather relevant information and outline their writing.
- Clarity: Writing graphic organizers promote clarity by helping students focus on the main ideas and supporting details of their writing. They encourages students to think critically and present their ideas in an organized manner.
- Visual Representation: Like I said before, many students (and adults!) are visual learners so we learn best when presented with visual representations of the writing process. A visual graphic organizer will help students remember the important steps of the writing process.
- Differentiation: Now that’s a word we all know! Teachers, let’s not think differentiation when it comes to writing….think graphic organizers! They automatically cater to all levels – for example, take a Venn Diagram. An A student will include complex text in dot points, labeled pictures and compare and contrast to the nth degree. A student who requires writing support can still use a graphic organizer but perhaps demonstrate his/her understanding using pictures or simple text.
So what’s better than a writing graphic organizer?
