Creating fun phonics booklets for kindergarten, first graders and second graders is a great way to help them develop their phonics skills, which in turn, promotes reading fluency.

Teaching phonics and short vowel sounds is fundamental in the early years of learning and literacy development. Phonics is the foundation of reading. This is how students come to learn the relationship between letters (graphemes) and the sounds they represent (phonemes). Short vowels are among the basic phonemes that form the building blocks of words.

In addition, phonics helps children to decode, which means they can sound out initial, medial and final sounds and then blend to read words. Short vowel words are often the first sounds learn to decode, which helps develop reading fluency and comprehension skills.
