Third Grade Writing Prompts Worksheets
Are you teaching writing to 2nd graders? One of the main challenges of teaching writing to elementary kids is often motivation and engagement.
Unless students are motivated when it comes to writing activities, it is difficult to have engagement in learning.
So tat’s where writing prompts come in! Writing prompts are an absolute game changer because the provide students with the foundations of a creative idea that they can grow.
Furthermore it reduces cogitive overload, which in turn frees up the brain to think of thefocus on the writing process – sentence structure, paragraphing, grammar and text cohesion.
In my first years of teaching, I remember thinking that writing prompts are more for reluctant writers or students who require support. Although this is accurate, it is also evident that writing prompts benefit everyone.
In high school, students are often provided with writing prompts in English exams. In job interviews, people are often provided with interview prompts and so forth. Providing our elementary students with writing prompts helps foster writer confidence and with enough practice, success at writing!
Students should have the opportunity to write everyday – whether it is journal writing, creative writing or ‘drop everything and write’ sessions – the fact remains that kids these daily opportunities, if they are to become proficient writers.
