Third Grade Writing Prompts Worksheets
Are you teaching writing to 2nd graders? One of the main frustrations of teaching writing to elementary kids would have to be motivation and engagement.
Unless students are completely intrinsically motivated when it comes to writing activities, hooking their attention is a challenge.
That’s where writing prompts come in handy! An absolute game changer because students are already provided with the creative idea.
Cognitively, it frees up their brains to think of the writing process – which includes grammars and sentence structure.
In my first years of teaching, I remember thinking that writing prompts are more for reluctant writers or students who require support.
Although this very true, it is also evident that writing prompts benefit everyone.
In high school, students are often provided with writing prompts in English exams. In job interviews, people are often provided with interview prompts
and so forth. Providing our students with important writing scaffolds such as writing prompts, clearly help foster writer confidence and success in writing ability.
Students should have the opportunity to write everyday – whether it is journal writing, creative writing or ‘drop everything and write’ sessions – the fact remains that kids these daily opportunities, if they are to become proficient writers.
